Ultimaker is one of the leading and best-known 3D printing brands with the Ultimaker 2 and new Ultimaker 3. It was one of the first companies to offer a complete solution with their devices and associated slicer program. Although the software is most suitable for the manufacturer’s machines, it also works great with other 3D printers. In this review we show you what the Cura Slicer by Ultimaker offers.
First you see a simple 3D printing platform marked by blue borders. Files are easy to retrieve using the button on the top left and save with the memory icon next to it. In addition, Ultimaker’s Cura Slicer automatically sets support functions and print settings making it extremely simple (see picture).
You can rotate, scale and mirror the 3D model using the 3 object icons in the lower left corner of the picture. Further functions for the view can be reached via the button on the top right through which the object turns e.g. transparent or with an X‑Ray view.
The view of individual layers on the model makes it possible to detect overhangs and precise information which can also be found via the button on the top right. The overhang feature helps to optimize the object’s alignment and increase print quality.
Conclusion of Cura Slicer by Ultimaker
The software is the most classic slicer program for 3D printers. It allows all operations, functions and views of an object without complex operations as well as for free. If you do not get a slicer for your own 3D printer, you should definitely try the Cura Slicer by Ultimaker. For those who e.g. have Flashforge 3D printers with their Flashprint Slicer program already have a good software to check out first.
After all the testing it is ultimately a matter of taste which program you choose. The software Cura covers all necessary and helpful functions. Feel free to tell us your opinion and favorite Slicer Software via the comment section below or the contact form.
