Metallic material for 3D printers is one of the hot topics in 3D printing as new and special filaments expand the possibilities of 3D printers. The Vilarox aluminum metallic material for 3D printing offers a high-quality PLA product.

The PLA filament with metallic particles is suitable for all 3D printers. Aluminium material for 3D printing has a texture that provides an aluminum surface without any reworking. Only 100% pure PLA pellets are in use to make this filament. The dyes are specially selected for the metallic colors to retain their properties after printing. As it is a commercially available PLA filament, the metallic material can be used on all FDM printers with 1.75mm nozzle.

Features of the PLA and tips for users

PLA is a thermoplastic filament of plant origin made from a maize starch-derived polymer. It has similar properties to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) used to make containers and is also biodegradable. PLA is a simple material and suitable for beginners, as it adheres better than ABS and works without having a heated printing platform. Nevertheless, the manufacturer recommends the use of a heated bed at 60° for optimum results. For a perfect surface, it is recommended to use a fan when printing with PLA, but don’t worry it works without both.

Due to its origin, it is environmentally friendly and gives a pleasant sweet aroma when printed with. PLA is a hygroscopic material that tends to absorb moisture. For this reason, we recommend to store it in an airtight bag in a dry and dark place when not in use.

More filament metal colors

Of course, there is not just gray aluminum as a metallic look for the 3D printer. Other colors with different metal characteristics are:

Critical consideration of the metallic effect

It is true that the material has a metallic-looking surface before and especially after the printing process. Yet you do not need to hope that it feels like metal which is impossible at the current state of technology for private 3D pritners. It continues to be plastic with a different look than conventional PLA filament.

Conclusion: Aluminium material for 3D printing

Despite the small final criticism, metallic materials/filmanet are a welcome change for home users. With it printed spare parts optically fit better to the original and own creations and give greater authenticity. In addition, the use of PLA is very simple and using the additional ventilation plus heated print platforms are nice, but definitely not a must have. We leave this aside and would also be happy about your personal experience with PLA which you can share in our comment section or via our contact form.
